Training Workshops

These fun interactive workshops have a specific focus so they are perfect for owners who are just
beginning training or for those looking to advance their dog’s skills.  Workshops can be taken once to
learn new skills or can repeated to take your dog's skills to a new level.

Just like our classes, dogs must be friendly with people and other dogs to participate and must be
current on vaccinations.
Please call (724) 847-0577 to register.

Leash Manners:  Does your dog’s idea of a walk mean
hauling you around behind him?  Are you frustrated trying to
get your dog to stop pulling on leash?  In this workshop we
discuss why dogs pull on leash and discuss appropriate
training equipment that can make walks easier.  We'll also
answer all your ‘leash manners’ questions.  Teaching your
dog to walk nicely, especially around distractions, takes
time and practice and we’ll show you exercises to conquer
leash manners so you’ll soon be enjoying your walk in the
park!  Space is limited to 6 dogs and their handlers so
everyone gets plenty of one-on-one attention.
Pre-Requisite: No previous training required.
Age Requirement:  Open to dogs of all ages.
Fee: $35/per dog.  Repeat same workshop: $30/ per dog
Duration: 2 hours
Schedule:
at Brady's Run Park, Brighton Township
Friday August 21, 6-8p

at Brush Creek Park, North Sewickley Township
Saturday May 23, 12-2p
Saturday August 8, 12-2p

Coming when Called:  It’s a beautiful sight – walking through the woods with your dog off-leash,
your dog free to explore to his heart’s content and racing back to you whenever you call him.  But that
picture takes work, effort, and practice.  Phenomenal off-leash recalls don’t happen by accident and this
workshop is geared toward owners who want to teach their dogs to come when called, even when
distracted.  We'll discuss how breed traits impact training, how to keep your dog’s focus, and practice
fun exercises that will help your dog learn a really great recall.  Space is limited to 6 dogs and their
handlers so everyone gets plenty of one-on-one attention.

Dog Park Behavior: This seminar-style workshop is perfect for dog owners who are nervous about
going to dog parks and want to learn to better read dogs as well as seasoned dog park-goers.  We'll
discuss basic canine body language, what is a friendly greeting vs unfriendly, when aggression is okay
(and sometimes it is!), and when to intervene.  We'll also discuss common play-styles, how to avoid
problems in the dog park, and you'll learn to pick out your dog's stress signals.  Several dogs will be on-
hand to demonstrate body language and play.  Bring all your dog-park questions for our question and
answer time...
Is it okay for a dog to hump another dog?  Why does my dog sometimes snap at other
dogs?  Is it okay for a little dog to play with the big dogs?
Dog & people friendly dogs are welcome to
attend as long as they can relax quietly during the discussion as this is not a "working" workshop.
Attendance is unlimited.  Please note this workshop is
NOT held at the dog park in Brady's Run Park!
Fee: $35/per person.
Duration: 2 hours
Schedule:
at Brush Creek Park, North Sewickley Township
Saturday August 15, 12-2p
