Get your new puppy off on the right paw! This fun 6-week training class is for puppies of all breeds
from 8 to 20 weeks of age. On the last night of class, the AKC STAR Puppy test is offered.
Training skills taught in Puppy Kindergarten include:
- Getting puppy's attention, "Watch me!" command
- Sit & lie down on command
- Walking on leash without pulling
- Come when called
- No jumping on people
- Trading (teaching puppy to relinquish items like toys/bones)
- Fun Tricks: Shake hands and rollover
Strong emphasis is placed on:
- Socialization with people and other dogs.
- Resolving common puppy issues such as playbiting/nipping, housetraining, chewing, and more!
- Introduction to basic grooming, body handling, and nail clipping
- Accepting veterinary exams
- Effective puppy management: use of crates, gates, and leashes; use of occupiers and chew toys
- "Human Training": establishing proper leadership, recognizing normal puppy behavior vs potential problems, and reading puppy's body
language.
- Responsible dog ownership.
PUPPY REQUIREMENTS:
- Pups must be 20 weeks (5 months) or younger on their first day of class. We occasionally make exceptions for older Toy breeds (up
to 7 months of age) or very shy dogs under 1 year of age - Instructor permission required.
- Proof of current vaccinations or a veterinary permission letter is required before joining class. If you do not bring your puppy's
records, you cannot participate in class.
- Class size is limited; enroll early to reserve your place.
**The first night of class is Orientation for people only; please leave your puppy
at home.
