Group Training Classes
Group classes are a fun, affordable way to train your dog. We offer several levels of classes and each class is limited to a maximum of 7 dogs/handlers to ensure everyone gets plenty of attention.
Our classes are held in two locations: Brady's Run Park, Brighton Township (outdoors - May to September only) The Animal Wellness Centre, New Brighton (Puppy Kindergarten only)
Please read our class policies & FAQ's on this pages before signing up for class. Directions to class locations can be found near the bottom of this page.
- Dogs must be current on their vaccinations and owners must provide us with a copy of their dog's current vaccination record on the first night of class. If you do not bring this information, your dog will not be permitted to attend class.
- Dogs attending class must be in good health and be free of internal parasites (worms). Dogs who are sick (vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, etc) or dogs with sutures from any type of surgery (i.e. spay or neuter) may not attend class.
- Dogs should be treated with a "spot-on" flea/tick product such as Frontline or Advantix.
- Group classes are intended for dog- and people-friendly dogs; group classes are NOT the place to work out behavior problems such as aggression. The Instructor will remove any dog from class who displays aggressive behavior toward people or other dogs (such as growling, lunging, snapping, or aggressive barking). Dogs who display excessively fearful behavior and dogs who appear to be sick or unhealthy will also be removed from class. Owners of any dog excused from class will have the option of applying the remainder of their class fee toward a private training session. Our top priority is to maintain a safe, comfortable learning environment for all our students – human and canine. Not sure if your dog is ready for a group class? Click here.
- Female dogs in heat may not attend class. If your intact female goes into heat, you may continue to attend class without her.
- Classes start promptly on time, so please try to arrive 5-10 minutes early and give your dog a chance to "go potty".
- Keep a minimum of 3' feet between dogs during the class and do not allow dogs to play or interact during class time. There will be time set aside for dog-dog socializing and play at the beginning and end of each class (dependent on the group dynamics of each class).
- Classes at Brady's Run Park are held outdoors and as a result, we are at the mercy of the weather. Class is canceled if it is raining or there is a severe weather advisory.
- Dress comfortably for class: sneakers or hiking boots, jeans, etc. Please do not wear high heeled shoes or sandals.
- We are unable to give refunds once class has begun. Please double check your calendar before signing up to ensure you can attend all the classes. Since our class sizes are limited, a last minute withdrawal means we have potentially turned away other dogs/owners and are now not able to help them train and it is also a loss of income for us. Therefore, refunds are given only in the following situations: - An insufficient number of dogs enrolls in the class. You would have the option of a refund or transferring your registration fee to a different class. - The class is cancelled by Pawsitive Results.
KIDS IN CLASS We encourage whole family participation! Families who wish to include their children in the training experience must follow a few safety rules:
- CALM QUIET children are welcome in class. Running, yelling, and boisterous activity can frighten dogs or stress them out.
- Children must be supervised at all times by a parent/adult guardian so we ask that 2 adults attend class (one to train the dog; one to supervise the child).
- Please remind children not to pet other people's dogs in class. Not all dogs are kid-friendly and even normally friendly dogs may react differently when stressed.
- Please remind children not to feed other people's dogs (including the Instructor's dogs). Some dogs may be on special diets or have food allergies.
- Children 12 years and older may hold the leash and be the dog's primary trainer (at our discretion).
- We are not baby-sitters. Do not drop off your child at class with the dog. Even if the dog "belongs" to the child, an adult must be present at all times for children under 18 years of age.
GROUP CLASS FAQs: Do you offer any discounts on classes? 2nd dog, same family enrolled in the same class = $5.00 that dog's fee. Dog from a non-profit rescue/shelter within past 6 months = $5.00 off fee with proof of adoption. Repeat the same class = $10 off
Will this group class solve my dog's behavior problem? Group classes are designed to teach basic obedience and social skills to friendly dogs and is not the place to address serious behavior problems such as aggression toward people or other dogs, housetraining problems, or excessive barking. If your dog is experiencing a behavior problem, please schedule a private training session.
What equipment do I need to bring to class? Since successful obedience training is not dependant on the type of collar or leash you use, we permit a variety of "gear" in our classes. However, we do NOT permit shock collars. At the first class (Orientation) we will discuss how to choose the best equipment for your dog.
Can I observe a class before signing up? Absolutely! We encourage anyone interested in our training to watch a class and see what we are all about. Just call and let us know you're coming and we'll be happy to answer any questions you have. Please leave your dog at home if you're just coming to watch.
Can I just show up with my dog on the night class starts? No. Class size is limited so all dogs must be registered in advance.
I can't attend the class I signed up for. Can you refund my class deposit/fee? We are unable to give refunds once the class has begun. If you withdraw at least 2 weeks prior to the start of class, your fee minus the $20 non-refundable deposit may be refunded.
What happens if I miss a night of class? Can I make it up? We do not offer make-up sessions so please double check your calendar and be sure you can attend all 6 weeks of the class you are signing up for.
What happens if my dog doesn't pass the Graduation Test (in Basic Manners)? We want dogs who graduate from our classes to be ambassadors for positive training, hence our Graduation Test in our Basic Manners class. If your dog doesn't pass, you'll receive a certificate of attendance for the class and may retake the class at a discount. We require dogs test out of Basic Manners before taking more advanced classes such as Canine Good Citizen or Training Tracks.
For outdoor classes...what if it's raining? How you do let students know if we're having class? If its raining or there is a severe weather advisory for Beaver County, outdoor classes are canceled. We'll notify students by phone approximately one hour prior to the start of class. If you don't hear from us, assume the class will be held.
Can my dog take the Canine Good Citizen test without enrolling in the class? Attending class is the best way to prepare your dog to take the Canine Good Citizen test. However, we welcome owners whose dogs are ready to take the test to do so without attending class. Call or email us for test dates and times. There is a fee of $18.50 per dog per test if the dog is not enrolled in class.
