How many sessions will it take to train my dog?
Most clients see a positive change in their dog's behavior after the initial session.  However, it is important
to keep in mind that dogs with behavior problems did not get this way overnight and successfully changing
the behavior will take time.

In general, some behavior problems such as housetraining problems
or separation anxiety may only require one session to give you the info
you need to work with your dog.  With basic obedience training, we can
usually work on between 2-3 skills in each 1-hour session.

Multiple sessions are almost always recommended for aggression
issues since we usually need to do foundation work with the dog and
owner and the skills needed to train an aggressive dog require the
careful guidance of a professional.

Ultimately how many sessions you want to do with Pawsitive Results
is completely up to you.  You are never pressured to buy more sessions.

Can I call or email you with questions after my
session?
Yes!  In fact we WANT you to call or email us within 6 weeks of your
session to let us know how your dog is doing with training and so we
can give you additional advice if needed.  However, our phone
and email support is available only for the original issue(s) we addressed at your training session.  If there
are additional or new problems you want to address, we will need to schedule another training session.

What can I expect at the initial behavior or aggression consultation?
Your initial behavior or aggression consultation is not a training session.  We need to get a thorough
history of your dog's problem behavior(s), observe your dog, and in some cases do hands-on
assessments so we can develop an appropriate behavior modification plan customized for your dog.
Additional sessions focus on training and behavior modification exercises.

The first session usually lasts 1 hour for behavior problems and 1.5 hours for aggression consultations
(sessions may run longer if there are multiple issues to address and will be billed accordingly).

My spouse/partner and I are not in agreement about what training methods
to use.  Can you help us anyway?
We firmly believe that dogs only succeed when there is consistency in training.  Generally, we will not work
with clients who are not 100% in agreement about our training methods and committed to following the
program we develop for the dog.

My breeder told me not to use treats for training.  Can you still train my dog?
Used properly, food treats can be the best motivator for your dog.  Which would you rather receive: $100 or
a pat on the back and an "atta boy?"  We can help you choose healthy treats for your dog and show you how
to use them correctly to get the best behavior.  Plus, we'll show you how to fade them out so your dog
continues to respond without them.

I'm not sure if my dog is really aggressive or not.  Do I need an aggression
consult or a behavior consultation?
An ethical trainer will never give an assessment or a determination about a dog's behavior over the phone
or email.  Behavior is often misunderstood or misinterpreted by owners and trainers need to evaluate dogs
in person to make a sound assessment.  Sometimes the behavior is obviously aggressive (a dog who
has bitten a person or is fighting with other dogs is clearly displaying aggressive behavior in some form)
but sometimes its not clear based on the owners' description.  We'll set schedule an in-home appointment
so we can observe your dog and take a detailed history of his behavior.  After this assessment, we'll be
able to determine if his behavior is actually aggressive or not and the fee for the session will reflect that.
See
Training Services page for fees.

When do you schedule private training sessions?
Pawsitive Results is a full-time dog training business.  We schedule private training sessions Monday
through Friday from 10am until 6pm and Saturdays 10am until 4pm.  Evening appointment availability is
subject to change due to our group class schedules.  We are closed on Sundays and holidays.  We are
usually booked 1-2 weeks in advance, although sometimes longer.

Does my whole family have to present for the training?
We do recommend it if possible.  We always encourage children to be present and participate in the
training sessions - we've gotten some very observant and critical information from kids who piped up at
just the right time!
