FAQ's:
We just adopted a dog from a shelter.  Do you offer a discount on
training classes?
We offer a 10% discount on most training services for dogs
adopted from animal shelters and registered non-profit rescue
organizations in the past year.  Just provide us with a copy of your
adoption contract.  We have lots of experience working with shelter
dogs and are committed to helping these dogs stay in their new homes.

What do I need to bring to class?
- Collar.  We recommend Martingale style collars for all dogs.  A regular,
well-fitting buckle collar is okay too.  Head Haltis, Gentle Leaders,
body harnesses, and no-pull harnesses are all permitted in class.  Choke collars and prong collars are
not permitted.
- Leash.  A 4' or 6' leash made from nylon, leather, or chain is acceptable.  Please no Flexi-Leads.
- Bag of treats.  Our top choices for treats are sliced hot dogs, string cheese, and freeze dried liver.
Also great are food roll type treats (Natural Balance, Pet Botanics, or Homestyle Select), beef jerky
for dogs, and commercial treats such as Pepperoni, Canine Carryouts, and T-Bonz.  You may want
to bring several kinds of treats to class.
- A chewy or stuffed Kong.  This can keep your dog happy and occupied when the Instructor is
talking or demonstrating a technique.  Excessive barking is hard for the Instructor to talk over and
harder still for other students to hear over.
- A bed or rug for your dog.  This is used for one of the behavior taught and also gives your dog a
place to lay down and relax.

Can I observe a class before signing up?
Absolutely!  We encourage anyone interested in our training to observe a class and see what we are
all about.  Just call and let us know you're coming and we'll be happy to answer any questions you
have.  Please leave your dog at home if you're just coming to watch.

I can't attend the class I signed up for.  Can you refund my class deposit/fee?
Because we limit the size of our classes to 6-8 dogs, they often fill up weeks in advance (sometimes
we even have waiting lists for certain classes).  Please check your calendar carefully and be sure the
class you register for fits your schedule.  Deposits are non-refundable except in the following
situations:
- If you choose to withdraw from class
at least two weeks prior to the starting date.  This allows
us to then give that space to someone else.
- If an insufficient number of dogs signs up for that class.  In this case you may transfer your
deposit/fee to another date/time of class or you may opt to have your deposit/fee refunded.

We
do not offer refunds of class deposits or class fees for any of the following reasons:
- If you choose to withdraw less than 2 weeks prior to the class starting date.
- If you choose to withdraw AFTER class has begun.  We can issue you a credit toward a private
training session or transfer the remainder of your class fee toward a future class.
- If your dog is excused from class for a behavior reason.  In this case, we will give you a credit
toward a private training session.

My female dog is not spayed and may go into heat during the class?  Can she attend anyway?
If you think your female may go into heat, you will need to postpone bringing her to class until after
she has completed her cycle.  A female in heat is WAY too distracting in a class environment and will
turn all the male dogs' brains to mush.  Of course, we strongly advocate spaying & neutering!

My dog doesn't like other dogs.  Coming to class will help him get better, right?
The answer is, in most cases: no.  If your dog behaves aggressively or fearfully around other dogs,
putting him in a situation with lots of other dogs is not going to make him feel more comfortable.  In
fact, it can make his behavior worse.  If your dog doesn't like other dogs, we suggest you sign up
for private training lessons with us first in order to address your dog's behavior issues.  We have had
numerous dogs attend group classes after first completing a few private training sessions at home.

If you would like to sign up for class, but are unsure if your dog is appropriate for a class or we feel
we need to see your dog's behavior in person before deciding whether or not s/he may join a class,
we can set up a
Pre-Class Evaluation.  We'll meet with you and your dog and bring along a
dog-friendly dog or two to observe your dog's behavior.  If your dog passes, the pre-class evaluation
fee can be applied directly to the group class fee.  If your dog does not pass, the pre-class evaluation
fee can be applied to a private training session.

In special cases, we sometimes allow dogs into group classes for re-socialization.  The dog may
simply need to brush up on social skills or may be attending a group class as the next step in a
behavior modification plan.
Our policies regarding dogs in class with known fearful or
reactive/aggressive behaviors are as follows:
- The dog must have been evaluated by us in a private in-home session or pre-class evaluation prior
to attending a group class.
- The dog's handler must be a responsible, physically capable, alert adult (no kids handling the dog
and no 90 lb handler with a 150 lb dog)
- The dog may be required to wear special or protective equipment as deemed necessary by the
Instructor such as a Head Halti, Gentle Leader, Easy Walk Harness, and/or a muzzle.
- The handler may be asked to work with his/her dog behind a physical or visual barrier.
- The handler must be alert and aware not only of his/her own dog's behavior but of the other dogs
and students in class.

Class Locations:
We offer group classes at two convenient locations: Brady's Run Park in Brighton Township, and
Ellwood Animal Hospital in Ellwood City.  When we receive your registration form, we will send you
a confirmation letter (by email or regular mail) which includes directions to the class location.  If you
are still unclear as to where class is held, please
call us.

Brady's Run Park classes are held outdoors from the end ofApril/early May to the beginning of
September (weather permitting).Classes are held near Shelter #6.

If you are coming from Route 51/Constitution Blvd, turn into Brady's Run Park.  You will pass the
Walking Trail, Ice Skating Arena, Recycling Center, and Horse Arena.  After you pass the Horse
Arena, the first left turn will have a sign for shelters 4,5,& 6.  If you turn here, follow the dirt road
past a small playground area and when you come to the end of the road, make a left (there will be a
blue restroom building on your left).  Shelter #6 will now be on your left.

If you don't turn at the shelters 4, 5, & 6 sign - continue straight on Brady's Run Road.  Make the
next left turn and go down a slight hill.  A blue restroom building will be in front of you.  Go toward
the right and shelter #6 will be on your left.

If you are coming through Brady's Run Park from the opposite direction (from Dutch Ridge
Road/Park Road), you will go about half-way through the park, past the lake, and the lodge.  Make
the first right turn after you pass the lodge.  From this direction you will see a sign for shelter #6.

**The class location IS visible from Brady's Run Road!  And please note, the class is NOT held at
the Dog Park.

Please remember to bring ample poop bags to clean up after your dog.  Dogs must be on leash at all
times in the park and are not permitted in the picnic shelters.

Unfortunately, because our classes in Brady's Run Park are held outdoors, there is a chance of class
being rained out.  In the case of rain, class will be held the following week at the same time and the
class will end up running an extra week in length.  Because the weather can change quickly, we will
not make the decision to cancel class until a half hour before class starts.

Ellwood Animal Hospital classes are held year-round indoors.  The hospital is located at 728
Lawrence Avenue, Ellwood City and is a just a short drive from New Castle, Beaver Falls, Zelienople,
and Cranberry Township.  There is on street parking and please remember to clean up after your dog
outside the building!
