Information & Policies for Basic Manners Class

© 2006 Pawsitive Results Dog Training
Webhosting by Yahoo!
- Basic Manners is open to dogs of all breeds 5 months and older.  If we have no current Puppy
Kindergarten classes scheduled, we will accept younger puppies in our Basic Manners class.

- Dogs in this class may be at any level of training.  Your dog doesn't need to have had any previous
training to join.  Dogs with aggression issues MUST be evaluated prior to joining class -
for more information.

- Dogs ages 5 months and older should be vaccinated per your veterinarian's recommendations and
must have a current rabies vaccination.  Owners must provide us with a copy of their dog's
vaccinations for our records on the first night of class.  Dogs must be free of internal parasites.
Although not required, we recommend your dog is on some form of flea/tick prevention.

- Puppies 5 months and younger should have had at least 2 rounds of vaccinations before attending
class or a letter from your veterinarian stating it is okay for your puppy to attend class.  Puppies
attending outdoor classes must have a current rabies vaccination.

- 15 minutes prior to the start of class is "dog socializing time".  Dogs must remain on leash unless
the Instructor specifically says otherwise.

- The first night of class is Orientation Night for people only - please leave your dog at home.  We
will discuss the class rules, our training methods, how dogs learn, dealing with common behavior
issues, and proper equipment.  If you are attending our Brady's Run Park classes, we suggest
bringing along a folding chair for Orientation Night - picnic benches aren't all that comfortable!

- Female dogs in heat may not attend class.

- Everyone who lives with the dog is encouraged to attend class!  Children ages 6 and older are
welcome to attend class with their family.  Children 12 years and older are welcome to handle the
dog (if physically able).  We ask that younger children remain seated during class and not walk
across the training area.  Children should also be aware of dog safety and understand that not all dogs
may be used to or comfortable around children.  Please remind your children to always ask
permission to pet someone else's dog!

- Your dog should be a wearing a regular buckle collar or a
Martingale style collar.  Please have
your dog on a 4' or 6' nylon or leather leash.  Your dog must be on leash at all times unless the
Instructor gives the okay to drop leashes.  Flexi-Leads, choke chain collars, prong collars, and
electronic shock collars are not permitted in class.

- Please remember to bring ample poop bags to clean up after your dog when necessary.

- We will provide fresh water for the dogs in a "community" bowl.  You are more than welcome than
to bring your own bowl/water for your dog.

- On Orientation Night we will discuss our favorite treats for training.  If your dog has any food
allergies or is on a special diet due to a medical condition, please talk to your veterinarian and ask
him/her to suggest an appropriate treat for your dog.

- Basic Manners class is not the appropriate place to deal with serious behavior problems such as
aggression or fearfulness.  If we determine your dog would be better suited to private training
sessions (i.e. is extremely disruptive, threatens other dogs or people, or makes other students
uncomfortable) we will excuse your dog and the remaining class fee may be applied to a private
session.  Our top priority is the safety and well-being of all our students.
